LiftMaster 8500: Security+ 2.0 and myQ remotes, programmed at the door control

Both LiftMaster 8500 owner's manuals, for units made before 2022 and from 2022 on, say the opener is "ONLY compatible with myQ® and Security+ 2.0® accessories." Program new remotes at the myQ Control Panel's LEARN button. Both: "The yellow learn button on the garage door opener will NOT program accessories."

An older LiftMaster manual, 114A4565E (© 2016, PDF), names only "Model 8500" and gives no year or serial range. LiftMaster's support page lists only the two manuals above, so which units 114A4565E covers is unknown.

Memory limits

Both manuals (page 23): you "may program up to 12 Security+ 2.0® remote controls, 2 Security+ 2.0® keyless entries and a combination of 16 myQ accessories to the myQ control panel."

Most LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers are programmed at the LEARN button under the light cover (learn button colors). The 8500 is the exception.
